Who We Are

Who We Are

Formed in the spring of 2021, the Highlands Choral Society hosts Highlands Chapel services in the Cold Spring/South Highland United Methodist Church building on Main Street in Cold Spring, NY. It has developed and refined its unique and unifying approach to worship, in which readings and lessons blend with choral and instrumental music under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Durward (“Woody”) Entrekin. We host nondenominational Sunday services and our members come from diverse backgrounds, including Episcopal, Methodist, Buddhist, Jewish, and other perspectives.

Our Services

Our Services

The Highlands Choral Society is nondenominational and welcomes people of all faiths or none at all. Our Highlands Chapel services feature music, fellowship, reflection, and prayer.

In addition to musical preludes, choral anthems, and hymns, a notable feature of the Highlands Chapel services is that, in lieu of a sermon, members of the Chapel community volunteer or are invited to share a “reflection” on a topic of their choice. These topics sometimes consist of interpretations of the week’s readings and lessons; at other times they focus on the speaker’s personal experiences and interests. Occasionally the Society holds a communion service, including a sermon by qualified guest clergy.

Children's Hour and Junior Choir

In addition to worship services, the Society is offering fully-staffed Children's Hour and Junior Choir.

Children's Hour

•  Drop off starts at 10:45 AM

•  Please use the Fellowship Hall entrance facing Orchard Street.

Junior Choir

•  Rehearsal starts at 9:50 AM

•  Please enter through the front door of the church.

Developed by educator JoAnne Chadwick, Children's Hour instruction focuses on kindness and gratitude through fun activities and music. The Junior Choir, led by music educator Amy Richter, will be open to children in grades K-8, and focuses on expressing praise and thanksgiving through age-appropriate musical activities. JoAnne and Amy are both NYS certified educators with many years experience working in the Philipstown community.
